The Fairy Maker-'Andersen'!

"Life itself is a Fairy Tale!" ~H.C.Andersen

April 2nd, (1805) the Danish Author Andersen's B-Day today!

Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense, Denmark, on April 2, 1805. He achieved worldwide fame for writing innovative and influential 'Fairy Tales'. No collection of fairy tales would be complete without the works of this Danish author Andersen.

In fact, Andersen's life was like a fairy tale in many ways. Out of the poverty, hardship, and loneliness of his youth, he came to be one of the most honored men of his time. Many of the more than 160 fairy tales he wrote, have become Literary Classics enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Although today H.C.Andersen is primarily known as a writer of stories for children, during his lifetime he was also celebrated for his other literary works, including 6 Novels, 5 Travel Journals, 3 Auto-Biographies and numerous Poems and Plays.

In order to honor this Danish fairy-tale maker, the "International Board on Books for Young People" has declared to celebrate his Birthday April 2nd as the "International Children's Book Day!", since 1967.

Happy B-Day to the Classic contributer H.C.Andersen!
