Words of Sir Sydney Roberts

These are extracted from the forewords of Sir Sydney Roberts to the book titled "Be a Librarian" written by Clifford Currie.

It is in that spirit that the young man, or woman, should approach librarianship as a profession. But to be a book lover is not enough. The gradual assembly of a private library is one of the most delectable hobbies in the World, but Librarianship is something different. Like everyone else, the librarian will have his personal preferences; but if he is to do the job properly, he must lift himself into the universal category, he must be the servant of the readers and students and scholars in all branches of literature and science and in the vast complications of the modern would, he must equip himself with the essential tools of the bibliographical trade.
